History Of Dish Network

Dish Network provides direct broadcast satellite services mainly consisting of television programming, music channels, and high speed internet. The company was officially launched in 1996 as a branch of parent company Echostar, which had been operating since 1980 as a distributor of C-band satellite systems.

Echostar had begun making arrangements to enter the DBS market by gaining licensure for new satellites and launching them in the early to mid 1990’s. And since then, the satellite entertainment trend has been very successful, with strong and steady growth. As of 2010, the company has a subscriber base of over 14 million and growing.

In 2008, Dish Network spun off from parent company Echostar, and the result was two companies. Corporate headquarters for Dish Network are located in Meridian, Colorado.
